Casino Del Sol Resort has taken its game outside. This "flower world"-or sewailo in the Yaqui language-takes players around lakes, streams and waterfalls as they head down the challenging fairways and greens. The Pascua Yaqui Tribe invites golfers to partake in the exceptionally beautiful new experience they have created.

Native American, PGA Tour player and golf media personality, Notah Begay III and his design firm, NB3 Consulting, built Sewailo as a continuance of his mission to bring quality golf development to American Indian communities. Built for resort guests and open to the public, the captivating layout Begay and his team devised brings a new set of challenges to golf in the Southwest by adding in an element normally scarce to the dry deserts-water.

Begay's bold configuration is at once formidable and fair for the seasoned golfer and a great challenge for amateur players, taking it on from any of the five sets of tees. Seven expansive lakes totaling to 14 acres of water and the milelong feeder stream that thread through the property set up the beauty and the bane. While the stunning reflective water adds breathtaking drama to the course and turns it into an oasis in the Sonoran Desert, the water threatens in varying degrees of risk-reward on no less than eight holes. The most daunting has to be the par-3 third hole, which forces a full carry to the exposed green.

Sewailo pushes back with an abundant mix of sharp right, left and long double dogleg fairways that distinguishes this course from its neighbors. The entire 18-hole collection forms a labyrinth with a host of strategic options that command a balance of accuracy, power and finesse. The complex layout and in-depth design just goes to show how much thought and energy was put into making this course a new favorite among Southern Arizona golfers.

The newest course in the Tucson metropolitan area, Sewailo also features a full practice facility complete with a driving range, chipping green, putting green, and even instructional programs for both established and junior golfers to help players of all skill levels improve their game.

Troon Golf manages the play at Sewailo, elevates ambience in the clubhouse and assures world-class playing conditions.

A fantastic edition to a luxurious resort, it will be no surprise if Sewailo becomes the big destination driver down to the Casino Del Sol complex south of Tucson.
